Spring into Summer Exhibition
Shari WeschlerIn her own words In 2020 my paintings loosened and I unloaded emotions both personally and for the collective during the lockdown; my first more serious block of time invested in the studio since opening CCG in 2018. They are cynical and humorous story tellers for human circumstances, situations and a complex psyche; an ongoing series entitled, ‘Bunni’ that began in 2008. They were inspired by a rabbit puppet that I ‘spoke’ through as an alter ego, to help calm my son’s racing mind and physical tics from Tourette’s at bedtime. Channeled through cute, soft figures, they are fast, fierce, shape shifting and intelligent creatures. I enjoy pushing their form into other other animals, objects or human. The color palette is free, loose and fearless. I do not agonize over these works and keep an open mind. They emerge and I allow them to tell me when they are done. There is always something to say, often the inner child materializes and tugs at the hearts of children and adults. On January first of 2023, after many major life shifts in 2022, I launched a 365 illustration journal, one-a-day to help unload the many tales of peril and slow redemption. I always Spring Back. - Shari |
