In Her Own Words
Contemplative time spent in nature is central to my art practice. I have always embraced photography as a meditative practice, a tool to help me more meaningfully observe the scaffolding of my waking life. My most recent series have been guided by my desire to delve into themes of landscape, memory, and home. While they are independent series, they are linked together by a minimalist formal and conceptual sensibility. In looking closely, I aim to reveal aspects of my experience of these places, and make note of my place within them.
Shelley has been a practicing photographer since the 1990’s. She earned a BA from Hampshire College with a concentration in photography and an MFA from the University of Arizona. Shelley worked in the curatorial departments of the Center for Creative Photography, and the High Museum of Art, where she was promoted to Interim Chief Curator.
