Urban Paintings
A collection of large scale urban paintings from the studio archives
Much of this work explores the human experience, in a contemporary urban landscape, involving elevated subway lines and highways built to transport goods and people in and out of the city. From the ground these structures can feel both oppressive and monumental, as we navigate our way through the accidental environments that are the underpasses and tunnels created by transportation architecture.
Ordinary, mundane and soulless, these gritty industrial spaces can offer a momentary glimpse of awe and wonder, if one pauses to see things anew. Several were also created as I reflected on 9/11.
