As an artist I draw inspiration from my environment and I feel fortunate to have lived in cities, and rural coastal locations. When I moved to the Connecticut/Rhode Island coast in 2011, I drove around exploring the area on the hunt primarily for a studio space, On my travels I came across the little gem of a town called Westerly. Back then it was still a bit of a diamond in the rough, wonderful architecture and storefronts, lots of potential but not much energy or activity. Little did I know there were plans in the works. 5 years on, I have watched it blossom, into a charming place, thanks in part to the vision of those involved in the Westerly Land Trust, and the local community.
I'm collaborating with the Westerly Land Trust this month in the exhibition ENDLESS SUMMER curated by Kim Charles, with fellow artists Susan Stephenson, Harriet Moore Ballard and Deborah Randall. I do hope you will join us for the opening reception Friday July 7th and celebrate this charming small town!
