I decided to reconfigure the studio, after returning from the annual printmaking workshop I do with Dan Welden, at The Omega Institute. I now have two distinct areas, allowing me to switch back and forth between painting and printing more easily.
It feels good to play with ink again, and the meditative process of editioning. I've been sharing some of what I've been printing over on instagram and will be releasing a portfolio of edition prints shortly, so keep your eyes open for the release coming soon!.
Here's a peek of the Cape Portfolio...

Many of you may know, Long Island has a special place in my heart. For many years back in the 2000's, I would hop on the jitney and escape the city and my full-time job. I'd spend weekends painting in my studio, (a little room at the back of the old health food store in Southold), and enjoy time with good friends.
Fast forward several years and a few opens studios later, I gave up my creative space on the East End, and the full-time job, to pursue an MFA in Fine Art. It would be three years before I would return to Long Island as the Artist in Residence at the William Steeple Davis House in Orient. It felt like I was returning home. I spent the next two years there painting and enjoying the landscape and community.
In fact, it was during this time in Orient that I first met Dan Welden at a weekend workshop in Greenport. In typical Dan fashion, when he realized I was an enthusiastic printmaker without a press, I found myself driving home after the workshop with his tabletop press in the back of my car and an open-ended loan arrangement! I couldn't believe my luck or his generosity, but anyone who knows Dan knows that this is how he rolls!. He is generous to a fault and so supportive of other artists.
Since then I've had the privilege of assisting him at many workshops and our friendship is close to 10 years old. As for that tabletop Etam press, it has been loaned to many, many printmakers since then!
Needless to say, I'm thrilled to be exhibiting alongside Dan and the other printmakers! I'll be hopping on the ferry on Saturday and would love to see you if you can make it to the opening. If not perhaps our paths will cross on another visit back home ;-).
What's happening in your world? Would love to connect with you oninstagram. Come find me. @anniewildey |
